Message from Principal Kathleen D'Haene

MARCH 30, 2020

Dear MCS Friends and Families,
I hope this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy.  I want to thank you all for your patience and hard work as we implement distance learning for our youngest learners. As a mom of four, I am incredibly humbled by all you are doing for our students during this extraordinary time in our lives. Please know that I am here for you and happy to do what I can to help in any way.

Here are a few of things that I need to share with you.

 1.    Distance Learning Bags are ready to be picked up and we’ll be holding curbside pickup Tuesday March 31st from 12-6 p.m. It will go like this:

a.    A staff member will approach your car.

b.    Tell the staff member the grade levels of your child/ren.

c.     We’ll collect the materials. (Everything is in plastic bags)

d.    Bring the materials to your car. (We’ll be wearing protective gloves)

2.    If for any reason you are unable to pick up the materials tomorrow between 12-6 please call the office tomorrow morning and we will try and make other arrangements.

3.    Starting this week we will be implementing MCS Forest Friday every Friday until further notice. This will be a day for students and staff to enjoy nature and get outside. Starting next week we will have a new schedule for all MCS Pre-k thru 4 staff and students. It looks like this:

            MondayAcademics
            Tuesday- Academic
WednesdayChoose Love Day (staff and students will be asked to implement     something we've learned from Choose Love with another person. Students will also complete their Guidance lesson on this day.)

            ThursdayAcademics
FridayForest Friday (Time to get outside!)

Please note- you’ll only use learning materials for Days 1-4 this week and starting next week you’ll only utilize 3 days’ worth of materials. With the change in the schedule, the extra academic work from one week will go right into the next week. As always this is meant to be a guide and you need to do what works for your family. This schedule will take us up to our April Break. I'm sure there will be updates as to what we are expected to do after April Break and I'll be sure to keep you posted.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

 Sincerely,

Kathleen D’Haene

March 16, 2020

 Dear Parents and Guardians-

Due to the COVID-19 related school closings, Moultonborough Central School Pre-K thru 4 will be implementing Long-term Distance Learning Bags.  The purpose is for our students to be able to continue to practice skills and strategies related to their learning as much as possible during this disruption. The use of Long-term Distance Learning bags will allow us to provide continuous educational experiences for our students.  Our school district is positioned better than most other districts to perform this type of education because we have a one-to-one iPad program and our experience with Blizzard Bags. What does this look like for the elementary level?

·       Each student will receive a Long Distance Learning Bag with their name on it. In the bag are materials and a modified daily schedule for students to be used as a guide. Teachers will be available to communicate with students during the times listed on the schedule.

·       Learning will continue in Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Specials.

·       Students will be expected to participate in learning following the modified daily schedule for their grade level, 8:00 to 2:00 p.m.

·       Students will receive 2 weeks-worth of learning materials. In each bag there are 3 clear plastic bags, one for each content area. Each clear plastic bag is labeled and contains a content area’s worth of work for Weeks 1 and 2.  For example, the Math Bag will contain 5 days of materials for math Week 1 and for Math Week 2. The Reading/Writing Bag will contain 5 days of materials for Reading and Writing Week 1 and Reading and Writing Week 2. The Specials/Science/SS bag will contain 5 days of Specials, and the Science and/or Social Studies materials for Weeks 1 and 2.

·       Bags also contain special education and intervention materials which are clearly labeled as such.

·       iPads will be sent home to students in grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 so they  can access online resources. There will be directions sent home with the iPads to support families accessing the resources.

·       Teachers will send messages to students via email, Schoology, or Zoom.

·       Teachers will be available for questions and feedback throughout the day until 2:00 p.m.

·       We will make arrangements for families to pick up bags sometime this week. Be on the lookout for a message from the school about when bags will be available for pick-up.

·       After the two week closure we will be in touch with families for next steps.

·       If your child is sick please email Linda Isabelle at lisabelle@sau45.org

Our hope is that using a modified schedule of an actual school day will be helpful in keeping some sense of normalcy for our students during this extraordinary time. We do understand that individual circumstances may prohibit the following of this schedule every day. If you have any questions about your child’s assignments please email your child’s teachers and/or Principal D’Haene  kdhaene@sau45.org. Undoubtedly, there will be a period of time while we get things figured out. We appreciate your patience and support while we all get through this.

Take care and good health to all~

Ms. D’Haene
