Dear MA High School Parents/Guardians:

Moultonborough Academy will be closed for an extended period of time as explained in Superintendent Andrew’s message to the school community.  In order to continue to provide for the education of our students, we will be switching from the typical in-person education format to an on-line Long-Distance Learning format beginning Monday, March 23.  Our teachers will be available during the school day according to the typical Monday schedule (white day) for the duration of the school closure.  This schedule allows for every class to meet remotely every day if that is necessary or preferred by the teacher.  Teachers will provide lessons and direction to their students via Schoology for each of the classes they teach and will be available to those students at the same time of day that the class would typically meet.  Teachers may not always be available to answer questions immediately at other times of the day.

Students will be asked to be prepared to adhere to the same daily Monday schedule (see below) and to access their materials and their teachers using the Schoology learning management platform (LRTC students will access those classes via Google Classroom).  As this is a rapidly evolving experience, we are likely to see a variety of assignments and instructional strategies being employed by our teachers.  Some assignments may be able to be completed at any time during the day, yet some instruction may be provided in real time.  It’s important that students keep themselves aware and updated on messages coming from their teachers and be prepared to follow the daily schedule from home if necessary.  A plan is being developed for students without reliable internet access.

Some other details:

·       Attendance for each class will be taken daily.  A student will be marked present in a class if they complete the daily formative assignment provided by their teachers.

·        All daily assignments are due by 3:00 pm.

·        Teachers may assign other, longer-term assignments or homework assignments which will be due as determined by the teacher.  These assignments are graded but are not for attendance determination purposes.

·       If a student is sick please contact the school nurse (  Students who are sick will be given extra time to complete assignments as outlined in the student handbook (1 extra day for each day sick).  Extra time can only be given if the nurse has been contacted.

·       The nurse will restore days based on parent phone calls for the duration of the school closure.

·       We will provide periodic updates and messages throughout the duration of the closure.

·       At this time, it is our intention to keep Moultonborough Academy open for staff only.

·       All athletic and co-curricular activities will be canceled for the duration of the closure.

·       A separate message will be sent out for how students who receive free or reduced-price breakfast and/or lunch can continue to access this service.

As always, please feel free to call (476-5517) or email ( me if you have any questions regarding our emergency plans.  We fully anticipate there being unforeseen circumstances and situations that we will need to address as they occur.  Together, I believe we can rise to this challenge and continue to provide your children with the best education possible under the circumstances.
